Price & Process

These are suggested approximate prices but I establish the price, details and time frame when I accept the commission. I ask for one third of the cost of the portrait upon accepting the commission and the remainder upon the completion and delivery of the painting.

Process

First we discuss the type of portrait you would like, casual or more formal, and what kind of expression or mood you would like to see.

We review photographs you have already and or I take several rolls of film. Then you choose the images you prefer. There is no extra charge for this photo session and I prefer to work from my own photographs. This is also a good opportunity for me to get to know the person.

Working from photographs has many advantages, the important ones being you receive the expression of your choosing as well as the person not having to sit for endless hours. With these sittings I have observed clients struggling to stay awake, which is hardly conducive to holding that spark of energy, and the capturing of the moment so desired in a portrait.

Once I have finished the painting I like to meet with the client to discuss it. In the event that you are not able to come to my studio, we can communicate via email or regular mail. This portrait preview can be done with photographs although this is not as satisfactory as seeing the actual portrait.

We meet for the final unveiling or I will ship the painting to you.
